On anode spots, double layers and plasma contactors

چکیده
Luminous, sharply defined and nearly spherical objects (‘fireballs’), typically several centimetres in diameter, have been observed in Ar, Kr and Xe plasmas. The ‘fireballs’ are anchored on a disk anode biased et 4040 V above ground potential. They have been analysed in terms of a spherical double-layer model, in which ionizalion of the gas atoms by electrons energized at the double layer plays an essential role. The relevance is discussed of the present resuits to the so-called ‘plasma contactors’ to be used in space. especially in view of applications to electrodynamic tethers.

Electrode patterns in arc discharge simulations: effect of anode cooling
Self-organized electrode patterns are often observed experimentally in diverse types of electrical discharges, including atmospheric-pressure electric arcs, but rarely captured in general-purpose computational plasma dynamics simulations. Time-dependent three-dimensional thermodynamic non-equilibrium (two-temperature) simulations reveal the spontaneous formation of self-organized anode attachme...
متن کاملThe perturbing effect of a Langmuir probe near a magnetised double layer
A sequence of colour photographs of an emissive probe moving through a luminous anode double layer is presented. The double layer is seen 'following' the probe for as much as 10 cm. This effect may result in erroneous measurements of both the double-layer width and its position. Recently, a number of experimental studies of doublelayer formation have been performed, particularly in magnetised p...
متن کاملNew analytical soliton type solutions for double layers structure model of extended KdV equation
In this present study the double layers structure model of extended Korteweg-de Vries(K-dV) equation will be obtained with the help of the reductive perturbation method, which admits a double layer structure in current plasma model. Then by using of new analytical method we obtain the new exact solitary wave solutions of this equation. Double layer is a structure in plasma and consists of two p...
متن کاملFormation of self-organized anode patterns in arc discharge simulations
Pattern formation and self-organization are phenomena commonly observed experimentally in diverse types of plasma systems, including atmospheric-pressure electric arc discharges. However, numerical simulations reproducing anode pattern formation in arc discharges have proven exceedingly elusive. Time-dependent three-dimensional thermodynamic non-equilibrium simulations reveal the spontaneous fo...
متن کاملSome Consideration on Double Layer Structure in Plasma Assisted Nitriding of Austenitic Stainless Steel
Low temperature plasma assisted nit riding treatments of 316 stainless steel produce a complex layer constituted by tow different metastable f.c.c. solid solution denoted ( γ N1 and γ N2 ). About the formation of these double layers, different hypothesis was proposed in the literature. For verifying these hypotheses, the effects of differentes conditions such as nit riding temperature, cleaning...
